Sophia, Noah most popular baby names in US

Noah has ended Jacob's 14-year reign as the top baby name for boys in 2013, while Sophia has emerged as the most popular name for girls for the third straight year in the US.

The most popular US boys and girls' baby names for the year 2013 were Noah and Sophia, according to the US Social Security Administration (SSA).

Official data showed that the next most popular babies' names were Liam, Jacob, Mason and William for boys and Emma, Olivia, Isabella and Ava for girls.

First time atop the list is Noah, the first new boys name at number one since 1960 other than Jacob or Michael, and the third straight year for Sophia, the SSA said on its website.
 

"This is huge news in the world of baby names with Noah rising to the top, unseating Jacob," it said.

There is only one new name in the top 10 this year - Daniel, but it has been there before.

Also, another Sophia crawled up the list - Sofia with an "f" has reached her highest spot ever at number 13.

The top 10 boys names for 2013 are: 1. Noah, 2. Liam, 3. Jacob, 4. Mason, 5. William, 6. Ethan, 7. Michael, 8. Alexander, 9. Jayden and 10. Daniel.

The top 10 girls names for last year are 1. Sophia, 2. Emma, 3. Olivia, 4. Isabella, 5. Ava, 6. Mia, 7. Emily, 8. Abigail, 9. Madison and 10. Elizabeth.
