Sopori mesmerises audience at SaMaPa Aalap festival

Santoor maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori today mesmerised the audience along the Indo-Pak international Border (IB) during the ongoing annual SaMaPa Aalap Festival in Jammu.

The SaMaPa Aalap Festival, presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Jammu, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and Departmentof Information & Public Relations, J&K featured Santoor recital by music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori and Sufi vocal by Ragini Rainu.

The performance received overwhelming response on day 10 of the festival at the border area of R S Pura in the open lawns of Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Education and Research.
 

Around 1000 people including young children and local residents witnessed the concert.

Ragini presented various qalams of Baba Bulleshah composed by her guru the great music legend Pandit Bhajann Sopori.

She concluded her recital with the traditional composition "Damadam Mast Qulandar" and the young children joined her in singing the compositions.

Abhay Sopori presented 'Raga Ahir Bhairav' making the children sing with him through the recital.

He briefly explained the basics of music and development of a melody from combination of different notes.

He highlighted the need to provide opportunities to children both at learning stage as well as creating avenues so that a platform is available to display their talent.

Sopori said that he was proud to see the young children of RS Pura taking keen interest in the music concert.
