Soumyajeet, Ankita, Shamini enter table tennis quarters

Top-seed Soumyajeet Ghosh, along with Ankita Das and Shamini Kumaresen, entered the quarterfinals of the table tennis individual events at the 3rd Lusofonia Games, here today.

Ghosh defeated Kubeco Alsendro of Angola in straight games 11-7 11-8 11-7 11-6 at Peddem Sports complex in Mapusa.

Das put paid to the hopes of Juano Mota of Portugal 11-8

7-11 11-3 11-8 11-4, while Kumaresena beat Chuwong Chang of Macau 10-12 11-4 11-3 11-1 11-7.

Earlier, Goa's teen sensation Tanisi Kirtani put behind

her opening game loss to Portugal's Marta Santos and came back strongly to win the next two.

Tanisi lost against Santos 11-8 2-11 7-11 3-11.
 

In the second game, she defeated Albiw Isabel of Angola 11-13 11-3 9-11 13-15 11-9 and then returned to win a hard fought battle against Leong Kit Weng of Macau 12-10 4-11 8-11 11-10 11-7.

Indian TT team had won two gold medals yesterday.
