South Central Rly gets 42% hike in infrastructure allocation

South Central Railway (SCR) has got a substantial budgetary allocation of Rs 3,034 crore for infrastructure development in Union Budget for 2017-18 with special emphasis on enhancing safety measures, a senior official said today.

Addressing a press conference here, SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav said the division has been allotted an amount of Rs 3,034 crore for 2017-18 as against Rs 2,134 crore in 2016-17, which is 42 per cent more.

"For new lines, the budgetary grant is Rs 887 crore as against Rs 760 crore for 2016-17, up 17 per cent. For doubling works, the budgetary grant is Rs 436 crore as against Rs 172.6 crore for 2016-17 which is 153 per cent more," Yadav said.
 

For traffic facilities, the budgetary grant is Rs 96.1 crore as against Rs 75 crore for 2016-17, a hike of 28 per cent. For passenger amenities, the budgetary grant is Rs 67.8 crore as against Rs 65.6 crore for 2016-17, he said.

As part of capital investment programme, a new rail work between Armoor-Adilabad via Nirmal in Telangana for a length of 220km at a cost of Rs 2,800 crore has been sanctioned as part of a joint venture (JV) with the State Government, Yadav said.

The Vijayawada-Amaravathi-Guntur new line (106km) project in Andhra Pradesh has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 2,680 crore, the SCR official said.

This year special emphasis has been given towards safety. For Road over/under bridges (road safety works), the budgetary grant is Rs 325.4 crore, as against Rs. 155.8 crore for 2016-17, which is 109 per cent more, Yadav said.

For track renewals, the budgetary grant is Rs 604.7 crore as against Rs. 435.3 crore for 2016-17, an increase of 39 per cent, he added.
