With the south-west monsoon active in the state, rains lashed most places in coastal and interior parts even as IMD forecast heavy rainfall in interior and south coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours.

The monsoon has been active in this part of the country induced by a Low Pressure Area created over coastal south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining west central and northwest Bay of Bengal, IMD officials said.

About 11 cm rainfall has been recorded at Similiguda in Koraput and Kosagumuda in Nabarangpur district, they said, adding that moderate rainfall has been experienced in the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Kendrapara, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore districts.

Meanwhile, an IMD bulletin said the low pressure area over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts, now lies over coastal south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining west-central and north-west Bay of Bengal.

Keeping in view the position of the low pressure area, the IMD has predicted rain or thundershower in many places in the state.
