: The 27th meeting of the Southern Zonal Council, a forum for the Centre and states to cooperate and exchange ideas and experiences on issues related to security, social welfare and health, will be held here tomorrow.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will preside over the meeting, to be attended by Kerala Chief Minister and Council Vice-Chairman Pinarayi Vijayan and CM's of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and administrator of Union Territory Puducherry, an official release said here today.

Common interests pertaining to infrastructure, health, security, social welfare, linguistic minorities and border disputes are some topics likely to figure in the meet.

The states have been divided into five zones. Each zone has its council, comprising the Chief Minister, two ministers and the Chief Secretary of each state.

The councils are headed by the Union Home Minister and each zone nominates one Chief Minister as its vice-chairman on a rotation basis, it said.

The zonal councils provide a forum where irritants between the Centre and states and among states themselves can be resolved through free and frank discussion and consultations, the release said.
