Southwest monsoon covers almost entire Bihar

Met department said monsoon is weak but is expected to pick up momentum in the next three to four days

The southwest monsoon has further advanced in Bihar covering almost the entire state today including its capital Patna, the MeT department said.

"The monsoon has covered almost the entire Bihar, including Patna except three districts of the extreme northwest part of the state that includes Champaran area," Patna MeT director Ashish Sen said.

At present, it is weak because of a system prevailing in the Bay of Bengal but is expected to pick up momentum in the next three to four days that would cause good rains in the state, he said.

Patna, which received a rainfall of 2.3 mm, today recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius while Gaya was the hottest at 38 degrees Celsius, the MeT office said.
 
Purnea, which received 7.2 mm rainfall, experienced a humidity of 83% while Bhagalpur, which recorded 4.6 mm rainfall, had maximum humidity of 80%.

The MeT office has predicted that in Patna and Gaya it will generally be cloudy sky towards the evening or night with possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied by squall. Bhagalpur and Purnea is expected to witness cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours.

The monsoon had hit the northeastern part of Bihar on Friday and would advance to other parts of the state by June 20, a MeT official said.

The MeT department had earlier said that Bihar is likely to witness eight to 10% less rainfall against its prediction of 106 per cent of rainfall across the country.
