The Samajwadi Party today accused BSP surpemo Mayawati of trying to "malign" the image of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav by asking for President's rule in Uttar Pradesh.

"Mayawati's agenda is to hinder the development of the state and malign the image of chief minister. By demanding President's rule, she is trying to malign the image of the government," Cabinet minister and SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury told reporters here.

Claiming that there was constitutional crisis in Uttar Pradesh due to poor law and order, BSP supremo Mayawati on last Friday met Governor B L Joshi and asked him to recommend President's rule in the state.

About the chief minister's programme in Harvard University, Chowdhury said that it would help make positive image of the state in foreign countries and could also help wooing investors.

Chowdhury said that in a bid to propagate achievements of the state government, the party would hold massive mass-contact programme tomorrow at all the district headquarters in which several legislators and ministers would participate.
