Uttarakhand Samajawadi Party today asked for immediate appointment of the Lokayukta, to rein in "corruption in the hill state".
Raising the demand through a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, SP's Uttarakhand Unit chief Satyanarayan Sachan said immediate appointment of the Lokayukta is a must to eradicate "corruption in the hill state" apart from an administrative commitment to combat the malaise.
Reiterating his government's commitment to effectively contain corruption, Rawat assured the SP leader of "expediting appointment" of the Lokayukta and also apprised him of the positive results of a scheme called Samadhan Yojana launched in the state to fight corruption.
Sachan also demanded action on the basis of recommendations of the Tripathi Commission which probed alleged scams during the previous BJP government in the state.
