A Samajwadi Party candidate for the UP civic polls, slated later this month, has been booked for allegedly violating the model code of conduct in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, the police said today.

A case was registered yesterday against Rashid Ali, the party's candidate for the post of chairman of the Kairana civic body, and his supporters after the district authorities complained that Ali allegedly took out a procession without permission when he was going to file his nomination, a police officer said.
