SP candidate booked for violating poll code in Ghaziabad

An FIR has been registered against Samajwadi Party candidate from Ghaziabad, Sudan Rawat, for allegedly carrying out his roadshow beyond the stipulated time in Masuri area in violation of the model code of conduct.

According to police, SP candidate had sought permission to organise his roadshaw after evening on Monday, but despite his request being turned down by police officials, he continued with the event till late in the night.

"Rawat had sought permission from Masuri police to carry out his roadshow at night on Monday, but we turned down his request. Despite this, the SP candidate cotinued with his roadshow till 9.50 PM.
 

"We have video recordings in which he was addressing people beyond the stipulated time," said a senior police official.

A case was registered at Masuri police station last night, he said adding that a probe is on.

"We have also informed the electoral officials about the matter," the official said.

Actor-turned-politician and Congress candidate Raj Babbar and AAP candidate Shazia Ilmi have also been booked for violating the model code of conduct.
