BJP today charged the Samajwadi Party (SP) government with "purposely defaming" the Centre over the demonetisation issue.

"It is the duty of the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh to see that people standing in queues outside banks and ATMs do not face any problem...(but) SP is out to defame demonetisation," BJP chief spokesman Hriday Narain Dixit told newspersons here.

"There are certain problems concerning farmers (because of demonetisation) which will be overcome soon... UP government should also cooperate...(but) there is an effort to condemn the move knowingly," he said.

"There were some practical problems in the initial days but gradually they have come to an end...The decision was big ...More than common people, political parties like BSP and SP seem to be more worried," he said.

The BJP spokesman said banks will get over Rs 3 lakh crore because of this decision which will bring a qualitative improvement in the lives of common people.

Demonetisation will also affect the coming Assembly polls in UP, he said.

He also gave details of party's ongoing Parivartan Yatras in different parts of the state.
