"One condition, he should not be a bureaucrat," SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters here when asked whether SP would support a Congress candidate.

"There should not be any non-political person considered for President. Nor should any bureaucrat should be considered," Singh said.

Asked how he had supported A P J Abdul Kalam who was a non-political person in 2002, he said "he was an exception. He was a noted scientist."

Asked about his stand on Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Singh "Why are you after him? He is a respectable person and he has more tenure left."

To a question whether he met TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he answered in the negative. "No discussion has taken place."
