A BJP candidate and an SP MLA were booked today for allegedly violating the model code of conduct as they went to file their nomination papers with hundreds of supporters in vehicles, leading to heavy traffic snarls here.

BJP nominee Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, a former MLA from Tiloi, and Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Rakesh Pratap Singh, the sitting MLA from Gauriganj assembly segment in Amethi district, filed their nominations in respective courts on the premises of collectorate at Gauriganj.

Both the leaders arrived at district collectorate with hundreds of their followers which resulted in heavy traffic jams on the roads of district headquarters.

Amethi Superintendent of Police Anees Ansari said cases of violation of model code conduct have been filed against both the leaders.

Four seats under Amethi parliamentary constituency fall in Amethi district and one in Raebareli.
