Supporters accompanying a Samajwadi Party MP allegedly manhandled the staff of a toll plaza in Mallawan area of the district blaming them for traffic jam, a charge denied by the lawmaker.

No police complaint has been lodged from either side.

Vehicle of SP MP Rakesh Sachan, who was coming here from Kanpur with his cavalcade, got stuck at the toll plaza due to traffic jam near Chitaura village on Grand Trunk road on Friday night, sources said.

Agitated with this, the MP's supporters manhandled the staff, following which the toll plaza staff fled from the spot, they said.

"There has been no abuse of power. This has been said by the opposition and this is a deliberate accusation," Sachan told a news channel when asked about the incident.

He alleged that the toll plaza did not conform to the norms. It should have been set up at a distance of 70 km from Chivali river, but the actual distance was 40 km, Sachan claimed.
