Stressing that Mulayam has attended these dinners in the past as well, SP General Secretary Ramgopal Yadav today said the party is giving outside support to the government, but refused to comment on its future commitment.

"Mulayam has always attended the dinner. We were giving outside support (to UPA) and we are still doing that. But we cannot comment on how long this will continue. Attending a dinner is not something wrong," Yadav told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

He was responding to media speculation that Samajwadi Party has finally decided to join hands with the UPA government as its chief had attended the Prime Minister's dinner last night.

"We have attended the dinners hosted by our oppositions parties also...I don't blame media for its narrow understanding of these things and for reading too much," Yadav said.

Earlier addressing a gathering of Samajwadi workers and leaders to felicitate the two corporators who won the recently conducted Delhi civic polls, Yadav asked them to strengthen the party base in the capital and make necessary preparations to win at least one Lok Sabha seat from here.

"We are still designated as a regional party as we do not have MPs from three states as required by the Constitution. We must ensure that our recent performance in UP should continue in the neighbouring states like Delhi also," he said.

The party leadership and ground workers should focus on other states now so that Samajwadi Party gets required number of seats to be recognised as a national party, Yadav said.
