According to data released by the state home department quoting Principal Secretary Home R M Srivastava, the total number of crime has come down to 1,05,580 from 1,06,763 in the corresponding period last year.
The number of cases of murder have also come down to 2,665 from 2,879 in the same period last year, he said maintaining that law and order has improved.
Claiming that incident of rapes has also come down from 1,340 in 2011 to 1,040 this year, Srivastava said cases of dowry deaths have also come down to 1,327 this year from 1,445 in 2011.
Cases of riots have also come down to 2,984 this year from 3,440 in the same period last year.
The officer also highlighted a number of campaigns run by the police department to nab notorious elements and criminals and said emphasis was given to ensure those arrested should also get punishment by court.
The opposition including Congress, BSP and BJP have alleged that crime has increased in the present SP regime.
