The Odisha unit of Samajwadi Party today urged the Centre to raise the income limit of the Creamy Layer status for OBC category from the present Rs 6 lakh to Rs 15 lakh per annum.

"As you are going to introduce the Union Budget for 2017-18 tomorrow in the Parliament, we request you to raise the income limit status of the OBCs to Rs 15 lakh annually in the budget for which the sons and daughters of OBCs people having Creamy Layer status can get the benefit," Samajwadi Party state president Rabi Behera said in a letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The Centre on May 2013 had raised the income limit for OBC's Creamy Layer to Rs 6 lakh per annum. The government has in the mean time raised the DA of its employees from 80 per cent to 125 per cent and was implementing the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the Samajwadi Party said.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee for Other Backward Classes (OBC) has also recommended for increase of Creamy Layer status income limit in its report submitted to Union Government, Behera added.
