SP worker commits suicide in UP

A Samajwadi Party worker allegedly committed suicide after he received several threat and extortion calls in last three weeks, police said.

Gulfam Qureshi (28) hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his house at Budhana town yesterday, they said.

Police said Qureshi had been receiving extortion and threat calls allegedly from a criminal who is in jail in some other case.

The SP worker was provided with a security team of three constables by the district administration, they said.

Meanwhile, in another incident, 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging from ceiling fan in his house at Tawli village yesterday, police said.
 

Shehzad had gone to Kashmir where he was engaged in a clothing business. He entered into a relationship with a girl there and allegedly eloped with her a month back and came to the village, police said, adding the girl's parents filed case against Shehzad.

The girl has been traced and Jammu police informed about her whereabouts, they said.
