A large number of party workers ran riot in the presence of party's district president and also allegedly thrashed some policemen there, police sources said.

They were demanding release of three relatives of one Mustkeem, who was accused of kidnapping a girl student of another community from Jandarur village of the district.

Police had detained the three to find the whereabouts of the missing girl as well as the absconding accused, sources said.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Dalveer Singh later removed SHO Ram Prasad Dubey and sent him to the police lines.

Singh also assured the protesters of releasing the detainees soon after making necessary enquiries. PTI CORR ABN PG AGL
