Spanish authorities today said that three French people were killed when the light aircraft they were flying crashed in a small northern town after reportedly colliding with a vulture.

A Navarra regional government statement said the two men and one woman died when the plane dived into a small plot between two houses in Arbizu yesterday.

The statement today said an eyewitness saw the plane colliding with a vulture before crashing.

The government said the plane was flying from Coimbra in central Portugal to Dax in southern France.
