Spaniard win 81-km long swimming race

Jose Luis Larrosa Chorro of Spain won the 81-km Baharampore swimming competition in Murshidabad district, here today.

Chorro clocked 11 hours 17 minutes 14 seconds to be the winner while compatriot Cesar Hernandez Ruiz took 11 hours 17 minutes 42 seconds and stood second.

Local youth Biswanath Adhikari clocked 11 hours 29 minutes 10 seconds to come third in the 74th edition of the swimming race from Ahiron ghat in Jangipur to KN College ghat in Baharampore.

Altogether 18 men and women from Spain, Bangladesh and India took part in the race organised by the Murshidabad District Swimming Association.

Two 19 km races for men and women were also held today between Jiaganj to Baharampore.
 

In the men's event, Faisal Ahmed (Bangladesh), Palash Chowdhury (India) and Jewel Ahmed (Bangladesh) were the winners.

On the other hand, Srishti Upadhyay (India), Nazma Khatun (Bangladesh) and Ankana Roy (Bangladesh) bagged the first three places in the women's event.
