After a pilot initiative in a Mumbai school, Association of Adolescent and Child Care in India (AACCI) now targeting schools in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur area to help students as well as teachers and caregivers prevent escalating violence at the school, college and community level.
"We want to educate and create awareness about the effects of unchannelled anger that in turn leads to aggression and violence among children," says Dr Swati Y Bhave, Executive Director, AACCI who is the brainchild behind the project.
AACCI had organised a two day national consultative meeting from August 4 here and launched the project seeking to address the increased instances of violence and aggression in children.
The Mumbai based NGO - a group of doctors from various specialties and mental health professionals - works for the holistic health of children and adolescents by creating awareness amongst parents and teachers and by imparting education on various issues through interactive workshops.
Under the new project experts would hold sessions in schools where modules involve role playing and counselling sessions for anger management with children as well as a educators and parents.
"We have worked with over 700 children, and about 50 parents and teachers from a Mumbai school and now are looking to extend the programme to Nagpur and Pune over the next two months," says Swati. MORE
