Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel today accepted the resignation of AAP legislator Ved Parkash, who had quit the party and joined the BJP earlier this week.

"I have accepted the resignation of Parkash as the member of Delhi Assembly," the Speaker said.

The development comes after Parkash, accompanied by Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, today went to the Assembly where he met Goel.

Earlier in the day, Gupta had alleged that the former Bawana MLA was forced to wait for around one-and-a-half hours to meet the Speaker, a charge Goel refuted vehemently.

"Parkash was called by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel in connection with his resignation and the appointment was fixed at 1 PM, but he was allowed to meet Goel after a long wait," the BJP leader said in a press statement.

However, the Speaker said he had given the appointment to Parkash at 3 PM and despite that, they came at 1 PM.

"I was in my constituency when they came to my office. Gupta is creating a controversy unnecessarily," Goel said.

On March 27 Parkash had resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi Assembly and joined the BJP, alleging the Arvind Kejriwal government has "failed" to deliver on poll promises.
