Actively participated by more than 600 participants drawn from all over Khasi Jaintia Hills district, students from various schools in the city also took part in the green run.
Dondorlang Kharbithai and Blarisha Nongrum bagged the first prize in man and women categories respectively in a Green marathon organised by the Unitarian Union North East India held here on Saturday.
Three year old Fenny Liza Lyngdoh of Laban was adjudged the youngest participant and 68 year-old Yesroy Pde bagged the special prize for being the oldest person who completed the marathon run.
Organised by the Unitarian Union North East India, the Green Run aptly themed, 'Save human kind from itself', is the first of such an initiative to create mass awareness among young students especially from the rural areas to inculcate habits that contribute towards a healthy, green and clean environment.
The run was also organised to celebrate the 125th year of Unitarianism in Khasi Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya and Karbi Anglong of Assam.
