Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami Tuesday rejected an Adjournment Motion moved by opposition Congress and AIUDF to discuss rise of fuel prices and other essential commodities.

The Congress and AIUDF had moved the adjournment motion on the first day of the Autumn session of the Assembly on Monday. The speaker had reserved the ruling for Tuesday.

"I examined all arguments raised yesterday. The Speaker's ruling is final. Though the issue is important to have a discussion, it can be done under other devices. So, I have rejected this Adjournment Motion," Goswami said in the House.

After this, the Congress and AIUDF members went to the Well of the House, showed placards and shouted slogans against the BJP-ruled government and price rise, forcing Goswami to adjourned the House for about 20 minutes.

After the House re-assembled, the day's entire proceedings were completed in a hurried manner with the concerned ministers only mentioning them without any discussion as the opposition continued to raise slogans against the government and Speaker in the Well of the House.
