Press Trust of India Kolkata
West Bengal assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee today seized the mobile phone of a WBCS officer who was caught taking photos during the debate on demand of budgetary grants for the departments of women development and social welfare.

The officer, who was posted in the secretariat of Sashi Panja's ministry, was clicking away photos which immediately attracted the attention of the members, particularly the Left and Congress.

The members started shouting and told the Speaker that he was taking their photos.

Speaker immediately asked the assembly security personnel to confiscate the mobile from the person and to take him out of the house.

After the day's proceedings were over, the Speaker summoned the officer inside the house and asked him whether he had anything to say.

The officer said he was unaware of the rules and customs of the house and tendered an apology. The mobile was then returned with the photos deleted.

A similar incident happened in 2010 when then DGP Bhupinder Singh was reprimanded and fined by Speaker H A Halim for taking photos in his mobile camera inside the assembly.
