Setting up of separate universities for traditional arts and crafts on the lines gurukul was suggested by Speaker Meira Kumar today.
Inaugurating the Parliamentatry forum on Artisans and Craftspeople, she underlined the need for introduction of courses needed to be introduced in schools and colleges to encourage youngsters to learn traditional arts and crafts.
The Speaker, in consultation with the Rajya Sabha Chairman, had constituted the forum earlier this year with objective of enahcing and awareness and drawing the attention of Parlamentarians to critical issues affecting artians and craftspeople in the country.
She lamented that some of the ancient arts and artforms were on the verge of extinction.
