Uttar Pradesh Assembly today authorised the Speaker to set up an all-party committee of the House to probe the veracity of the sting operation by a TV channel about alleged political interference in functioning of police during the Muzaffarnagar riots.

The resolution authorising Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey was passed after members of various parties made a demand in this regard.

The number of members of the committee would be decided by the Speaker, the resolution said.

The committee will submit its report to the Speaker.

Following the sting operation by a TV news channel, the state government faced a fresh round of attacks by the opposition parties who also demanded parliamentary affairs minister Azam Khan's arrest, whose name had also figured in the sting operation.
