Special arrangements made for animals in Sayaji Baug zoo

In order to protect animals and birds at the Sayaji Baug zoo here from soaring temperature, Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has made arrangements to provide relief to the zoo inmates.

VMC commissioner H S Patel said instructions have been issued to the zoo authority to make necessary arrangements in view of rising daytime temperature which had reached upto 44.5 degree Celsius yesterday.

Zoo in-charge Dr C B Patel said they have put up shades alongside cages, placed sprinklers to keep the zoo surrounding cool and ice slabs inside enclosures of male and female bears.

"Special care is being taken for cat family, including lions, tigers, leopard and cats. To avoid dehydration in animals, a dosage of glucose and medicines with vitamins is being administered under supervision of veterinarians. Fruits like water melon, papaya are being fed to birds," he said.
