Special Cell busts inter-state robbery gang

With the arrest of six persons, the Delhi Police today claimed to have busted an inter-state robbery gang and worked out nine cases, including an alleged Rs 20 lakh heist in the city.

The accused have been identified as Hitender Singh Rawat, Deshraj, Shakeel, Rajkumar, Ramratan and Shimam.

The police also recovered two semi-automatic pistols, three country-made pistols, one point 315-bore gun, a car and a motorbike from their possession, DCP (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said.

During investigation, it emerged that two of the accused - Rawat and Deshraj - were jailed in connection with a murder case registered at Hauz Qazi police station in 2007. They had jumped paroles and were allegedly executing robberies in and around NCR, said a police official.
 

Based on a tip-off, the police laid a trap in Dhaula Kuan area on September 23 night and arrested the duo. During interrogation, they disclosed the potential whereabouts of their associates and later the others were arrested one after another, the official said.

In June, the gang had allegedly robbed a businessman of Rs 20 lakh at Netaji Subhash Place area. They also allegedly shot at a motorbike rider to rob him off the two-wheeler, which two of their associates needed to flee the spot, the official said.

In the past one year, the gang had allegdly robbed people of cash, vehicles and other belongings in east, west, southwest and outer Delhi, apart from a case registered in Meerut, the official added.
