The Kerala cabinet today announced a special package for improving the health scenario in the tribal belt area of Attapadi in Palakkad district from where 22 infant deaths were reported due to malnutrition in recent days.
As part of the Attapadi package, 75 new posts will be created at hospitals in Kottathara, Agali and Puthoor, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
Special monthly allowance of Rs 20,000 will be provided to doctors working in this region. Other staff will be given additional 20 per cent of their basic salary as monthly allowance.

An amount of Rs 25 lakh will be provided to buy medical equipment and for other arrangements in hospitals in the Attappadi area, he said.
A 24-hour blood bank, de-addiction centre and nutrition institute will be started at Kottathara Tribal Specialty Hospital.
