More than 3.25 lakh pilgrims took holy dip in the Mahamaham Tank here in the last two days of the once-in-12 years festival.

While one lakh devotees took the holy dip on the first day of the festival on February 13, around 2.25 lakh did so yesterday, District Collector N Subbaian said today.

He released special postal stamps on Mahamaham festival, billed as the Kumbh Mela of the South, and City Union Bank, which has been functioning for the past 112 years, an official release said.

CUB Chairman S Balasubramnian, Managign Director N Kamakodi were among those who attende the function.

He warned of severe action against hotels and lodges and autorickshaw drivers fleecing the pilgrims.

Later, the Collector reviewed the arrangements for the festival at a meeting of all departments, including police.
