Special prayers were conducted at various temples in Coimbatore district and at the famous Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram, invoking the rain Gods as several parts of Tamil Nadu are reeling under drought.
In Coimbatore, a large number of people took part in a special prayer organised by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department at various temples, where special homams were also performed, official sources said.
Top officials and MLAs participated in the programmes to seek the rain God's intervention following the failure of the monsoon in recent years.

Prayers were also held in many temples, including Subramanyaswami temple, Vanabhadrakaliayamman Temple, Malleeswarar Temple and Ramalingasamy Temple.
In Rameswaram, at the Ramanathaswamy temple,a "Mahayagam" was conducted seeking to propitiate the Rain God.
Also, pujas were held at the shrine for the same in which State Minister M Manikandan and Paramakudi MLA Muthaiah, among others, participated.
