Special teams probing German woman rape case

The Tamil Nadu police today said it has deployed several special teams to probe into the alleged rape of a German woman tourist on Mamallapuram beach and hopes to nab the culprits before soon.

"Special teams are on the job and the culprits will soon be apprehended," a senior police official told PTI.

"The probe is still at preliminary stage," he said adding several people are being questioned.

The victim, who was part of a group of German tourists, was allegedly sexually assaulted when she was taking a stroll yesterday alone along the sea shore close to a resort, where she had been staying.
 

Following the incident, security has been beefed up around the tourist destinations in Mamallapuram including, the world heritage site of Shore Temple.

Patrols have been increased as well, the official said.
