Several organisations of specially abled people today demonstrated in front of the state secretariat here accusing the Assam Government of failing to fulfill its commitments to them, police said.
Members of organisations of physically, visually and hearing impaired persons attempted to enter the secretariat 'Janata Bhavan' by breaking the police barricade to meet the social welfare minister and officials concerned.
The agitators were arrested and many of them were seen being physically lifted by policemen and put inside buses for taking them to temporary jails.
They were later released, police said.
The demonstrators alleged before the journalists that the government had failed to fulfill its repeated assurances given to them at various meetings during the past two years.

They are demanding establishment of an exclusive college and university for specially abled people and reservation of government jobs for them.
They also demanded raising of their special allowance of Rs 5000 to Rs 10000 per month.
The protest blocked the busy G S Road and held up traffic for nearly two hours, police said.
