Jathedar Akal Takht today asked the State and Central governments to speed up efforts to release Sikh detainees who have already completed their sentences.
Akal Takht extends support to Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa's viewpoint, who is presently on hunger strike while carrying the demand of immediate release of Sikh detainees languishing in various jails of the nation for the last nearly two decades, Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh said in a statement.
Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has been on a hunger strike in Haryana since November, pressing for the release of 14 Sikh 'political prisoners'.
In November last year, Khalsa remained on a 44-day-long hunger strike, seeking release of six Sikh 'political prisoners' Bhai Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shemsher Singh, Lal Singh, Wariam Singh and Gurdip Singh. He ended his hunger strike after four of the concerned prisoners were released on parole.
