Angry residents of Shaktigarh area today blocked National Highway 2 and pelted stones at a Motor Vehicles (MV) department check-post after a speeding truck knocked a two-wheeler killing one and injuring another person.
A group of MV officials were conducting routine checks on NH 2 this evening and during the course had asked a truck laden with stones to stop of checking.
The driver of truck ignored the MV officials' signals and started to speed off when he saw that some of the officials were chasing the vehicle, a police officer said adding, the driver soon lost control over the vehicle and hit a two-wheeler and then crashed into a roadside ditch.

The driver and the helper of the killer truck fled the spot.
As the news of the accident spread, angry residents vandalised the MV check-post and pelted stones at a bus and a van and damaged several two-wheelers. They also put up a road blockade on the key National Highway.
A police team rushed to the spot, but the irate mob did not budge to their reasoning and continued with the blockade, the police said.
Later on SDPO, Burdwan, Soumik Sengupta reached the spot along with RAF personnel and crowd was dispersed after a mild baton charge, the police said.
The blockade, which continued for around one-and-half hours and was subsequently lifted, the police said adding, the truck has been impounded.
