A prominent organisation of Patels in Gujarat today appealed to the community to vote for only those candidates in the upcoming local body polls who are in favour of quota for its members.

"As the elections to local bodies are announced, Patel community is in doldrums about what stand they should take. Thus, we want to tell all Patels as well as other general category members to support only those leaders who have openly supported our demand for reservation", said Chief of Sardar Patel Group (SPG) Lalji Patel, who has been working with Patel quota stir leader Hardik Patel.

SPG claims to be the biggest organisation of the Patel community in the state.

"Apart from this, such leaders who have earlier extended their support to Patels during our agitation for reservation. I appeal to Patels and other general category members to support only those poll candidates who are in favour of giving reservation to Patels," he added.

He also made it clear that SPG will not field any candidates in the polls.

"SPG is the biggest body of Patel community in Gujarat. We are a non-political entity working for our community since last 17 years. SPG will never field it's candidates. But, we will support only those who are with us (the community)," he said.
