Nineteen persons from a village on the Mizoram-Myanmar border, who served in a Myanmar jail for three months before being released, were today received at the Champhai district headquarters.
The persons, who belonged to Tlangsam village, were received at Zokhawthar, a border trade centre, by the Deputy Commissioner of Champhai district H Lalengmawia.
They were freed after Mizo civil societies took up their case with the Myanmarese authorities.
Twenty people from the village, calling themselves 'spiritualists', had planned to travel to China via Myanmar last March. While one of them died in the prison, 19 others were freed.
