: The State government sponsored Renewable Energy Agency Puducherry (REAP) has launched a drive to replace incandescent bulbs used by people in many villages here with LED bulbs free of cost under the 'one hut one bulb' scheme.
A release from the Agency said that the scheme has been implemented in cooperation with the Department of Electricity and with support of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency of the Power Ministry.
The drive called as 'LED Village Campaign' is intended to achieve energy conservation.

Electricity and Education Minister T Thiagarajan yesterday distributed LED bulbs to each of 1,850 families and beneficiaries hailed from Irulanchanthai, Kuruvinathampet and Bahoorpet in the Bahoor commune panchayat limits.
He also launched the LED Village campaign programme in Kanniyakoil village.
The release said the government had already replaced high power consuming sodium vapour lamps and fluorescent lamps used for street lights in these village.
The release claimed that 85 per cent of power could be conserved from the total power usage through this arrangement.
REAP Managing Director R Smitha said distribution of LED bulbs to hut dwellers was second phase of the drive after replacing the street lights in the hamlets.
