"Taking a serious note of mushrooming of illegal housing colonies in and around the city, the SDA ordered immediate halting of construction work in colonies coming up unlawfully within the limits of the Srinagar Master Plan," a spokesman of the urban development body said.
He said the SDA has constituted a special squad to monitor such activities on a day-to-day basis. The squad has been authorised to initiate action instantaneously against illegal constructions.
"People should approach the Town Planning wing of the SDA to check the authenticity of the housing colony before making any investment in colonies being developed illegally," the spokesman said.
The SDA urged different departments not to provide basic amenities like electricity, water supply and drainage facilities to illegal colonies and houses constructed without permission.
