Aiming to boost the morale of those suffering from kidney failure, dialysis chain NephroPlus will organise a sporting event here for patients on dialysis.

The unique sporting event 'Dialysis Olympiad' will be held at Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium on February 15, Founder and CEO of NephroPlus, Vikram Vuppala, said today.

"We believe that dialysis should be a small part of patients' lives rather than defining their lives. Event 'Dialysis Olympiad' is an extension of this vision," he said.

The event would feature 50 mts and 100 mts sprint, 250 mts walkathon, long jump, chess, table tennis, badminton, sudoku, cycling, chess and carrom games.

The registration for the event is open till February 13 and 500 active dialysis patients from across the country are expected to participate in the Olympiad.

"People become depressed when they have to undergo dialysis. Many patients have misconceptions about travel, food and many other aspects. Being on dialysis is not the end of life. This event would bring about a change in the way public at large view dialysis," noted mimicry artist Hari Kishan, a dialysis patient who will participate in the event, said.
