The 56th State level Republic Day Sports Competitions for School children, studying in the sixth to 10 Standard, began today at the Race Course Stadium here.
As many as 5390 sportspersons from 17 Educational Zones were participating in the event, District Collector L.Subramanian said,presiding over the inaugural function.
Tamil Nadu state's Delhi representative S.T.K.Jakkaiyan released the souvenir brought out on the occasion.
The games would be organised in 16 different venues. Events would be held in various sports including football, basketball, volleyball, and kabbadi.
