Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today said the Haryana Sports Council Bill, 2016 to constitute statutory sports councils at state, district, block and municipal levels has been approved.
The bill for constituting sports council in Haryana, on the pattern of Sports Authority of India (SAI), was passed in Haryana Assembly in August last year.
The Haryana Governor was speaking after felicitating outstanding kabaddi players and coaches of the state on the second day of three-day long Pandit Deen Dayal Updhyaya All India National Style Kabaddi Championship, being held at Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, in Sonepat district.

He said the sports policy being implemented by the state government to promote sports and encourage sportspersons by offering various amenities and incentives is yielding positive results.
With a view to realise the vision of Pandit Deen Dayal Updhyaya for character-building of the youth, the Haryana Government is carrying out development of the sports sector in a planned manner on priority basis, he added.
Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu Singh lauded the efforts of the sports and youth affairs department for promoting sports and generating better opportunities for sportspersons to showcase their talent.
He said the sports policy of the state government would yield positive results and lead to equitable all-round development of the youth in all regions in Haryana.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij said that sports nurseries are being established and synthetic tracks would be laid in each district.
A Swarna Jayanti Centre of Excellence would also be established in each district. 'Yog' and 'vyayamshalas' would start functioning this year in around 1,000 villages, he said.
With a view to promote traditional sports, the government would organise wrestling championship with the highest-ever prize money of Rs one crore on March 23, he added.
