A multi-specialty sports injury treatment centre would be opened at the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics in Bengaluru, state Health Minister U T Khader said.

The centre, set up at a cost of Rs six crore, will have all facilities for treating injured athletes, cricketers, footballers and tennis players, he told reporters here.

Doctors specialised in treating sports injuries and expert physiotherapists would be posted at the centre, headed by plastic surgeon B G Tilak.

The centre will be the second of its kind in the country after the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.

Madan Ballal, specialist in sports injuries and arthroscopy, said the centre would focus on arthroscopic surgery that requires minimal incision and the treatment would be over within a short span of time.
