Sports memorabilia auction raises Rs 14 lakh for charity

Sports memorabilia, including Sachin Tendulkar's bat autographed by the cricket maestro himself and jerseys of Brazil and Argentina signed by football legends Pele and Maradona, were sold for Rs 14 lakh in a charity auction here Saturday.

The fund-raising auction 'We Care' was held to support the treatment of ailing journalist Sugata Mukherjee and a city brave heart Jiban Sarkar, organisers XtraTime.in stated in a release.

Tendulkar's bat was sold to Surajit Biswas for Rs 2.25 lakh and a jersey of I-League runners-up East Bengal signed by the team members was bought by Prithiijit Das for Rs 1.75 lakh.

An autograph T-shirt of Indian captain Virat Kohli was also high in demand as it was sold for Rs 1 lakh to Mohun Bagan secretary Srinjoy Bose.
