Sports Minister asks SAI to take stock of assets

Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has instructed the Director General of Sports Authority of India to immediately take stock of the assets of Department of Sports including SAI, and devise a system for revenue generation and self sustainment.

In a communication to DG, SAI, the minister has expressed concern over the maintenance and utilisation of all the assets.

"The minister has asked DG, SAI to take stock of all the assets of Department of Sports that includes stadia in Delhi, Regional Centres, SAI Training Centres (STCs), Special Area Games (SAGs)," an official source in the ministry revealed.

"He has also urged SAI to suggest/recommend measures for revenue generation and forecast the revenue collection of the same," the source added.
 

In a separate communication, the Sports Minister has also sought a status report on the action taken for setting up SAI Swimming Academy at Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex and the progress made so far after signing the MoU with an Australian agency.

"The MoU with the Australian Sports Academy (ASA), VETEA was entered into on 12th August, 2014. The MoU has been made operational for skill enhancement of coaches, life-guards, administrators and technical officials. Foundation Stone for the learner's pool and the squash court was laid on 12th August, 2014," the source informed.

The minister also wants SAI to submit status report on all other National Sports Academies set up by the ministry.
