The Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports (SPORTS) in Lakshadweep has asked the Dakshina Kannada district administration to strengthen the tourism bond between the city and the island.
Though SPORTS had started a cruise service between Mangaluru and Kavaratti in Lakshadweep and back, which could ferry 150 passengers, the infrastructure at the cruise lounge here was not satisfactory, Haji P Pookunhi, the society's assistant general manager, said.
The lack of an entry permit approval centre also was a problem for travellers from the city to the island, he said adding that a centre could be set up here if the DK administration and Lakshadweep come to an agreement.

Pookunhi, who met DK deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim on May 7, had placed a proposal before him to develop the infrastructure at the Old Port in the city.
He said the number of cruise service, which was now operating once in four days, could be increased if the DK administration provided more facilities.
SPORTS is a society formed by the Lakshadweep administration in 1982 to promote tourism, he said. Ibrahim said necessary arrangements would be made after talks with SPORTs representatives, a press release here said.
