In a bid to promote sports culture, week-long 'assembly sports' tournaments will be held across the national capital by the AAP government, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said today while inaugurating the first of its kind at Patparganj.

Sisodia said East Vinod Nagar's sports complex, where the event is being held, would be equipped with adequate facilities to make it fit for hosting Fifa Under-17 tournament matches, scheduled later this year.

"Local sportspersons will be able to make good use of the facilities later. This is going to be the opening of a new chapter of sports in Delhi. This will also answer the question of those who wants to make career out of sports," Sisodia, who represents the Patparganj constituency, said.

The event, with around 3,000 participants, has a line up of sports such as Kho Kho, Kabbadi, Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Boxing, Tug-of-war, boxing and athletics.

The tournament, open to voters and children of Patparganj constituency, has been categorised for children under the age of 12 years, 14 years, 17 years and 19 years respectively. There is a separate segment for people who are aged above 19 years.
